New instruments, arts equipment to reach students and programs

Middle and high school fine arts programs will be infused with over 216 items, including new instruments and equipment, with the Board’s approval of a $791,000 budget amendment. The district regularly allocates funds for fine arts programs, but periodically, additional financing is needed to ensure the quality of those programs due to wear and tear on equipment and to adjust for new student growth.

The investment follows the list of greatest needs in the district's band, choir and theatre programs, which was compiled by the district fine arts staff.

Board approves proposal to upgrade athletics facilities in 2018

The Board formally approved the 2018 Major Maintenance Plan, which allots more than $5.4 million for replacement and repair of building components. The plan for summer 2018 includes renovations and additions to athletic facilities at Cedar Park High School, as well as track resurfacing at Cedar Park and Stiles middle schools and Monroe Stadium, the regional outdoor stadium at Vandegrift High School. The district will rebuild athletic fields at Leander and Canyon Ridge middle school. LISD has approximately 1,486 acres of grass and athletic fields, 136 acres of roofs, and 6,992,202 square feet of enclosed building area to maintain. LISD sets aside funding each year for regular maintenance, in addition to its bond programs.

District reviews zoning process, prepares to set attendance areas for Elementary School #27

Some communities in the northern part of the district will start the process for setting attendance areas for Elementary #27, scheduled to open in August 2019. The school will be located in the Larkspur subdivision, located in Liberty Hill off 183 and north of the South San Gabriel River. The Board discussed and voted to continue their zoning process. Staff will develop scenarios and present options to the Board at consecutive meetings. Once the Board selects a single recommendation, LISD will review with the public for feedback, consider adjustments and present to Board for further discussion and action in spring 2018.
